Can I apply for the Nurse Aide Training Program?

Requirements for the Nurse Aide Training courses:

  • Be 17 years of age or older.
  • Pass Math & English entrance assessments
  • Submit a physical exam with vaccinations and negative two-step tuberculosis (TB) skin test or blood test (or chest x-ray, if indicated); – the cost for testing is the responsibility of the student.
  • Submit a background check (no cost).
  • Be able to physically and mentally perform the duties of a Nurse Aide.
What is included with the tuition?
  • 24/7 access to the online course for 180 days
  • 30 – 40 hours of Online Classroom in Nursing Theory
  • 43 total hours of in-person laboratory skills  training
  • 32 total hours working in a long-term care facility.

What should I expect when I enroll?

This course is a combination of online and in-person, approved and in conformance with the Indiana State Department of Health. This course provides instruction in the roles and responsibilities when performing duties of the Nurse Aide. Body structure and function, infection prevention, nutrition, principles of growth and development, safety in healthcare, home health care, and care of the older person are some of the topics emphasized. 

The Nurse Aide Training provides a total of 105 or 115 hours of theory, laboratory, and clinical training to prepare candidates for a rewarding career as a Certified Nurse Aide. Students who successfully complete this course will receive a certificate of completion which grants eligibility to for the Indiana State Department of Health Nurse Aide Competency Evaluation. Upon successful completion of state exam candidates can be listed in the Indiana Registry as a Certified Nurse Aide.

Certified Nurse Aides can obtain employment in the following areas: nursing homes, home health agencies, assisted living facilities, adult day cares, hospitals, and rehab facilities.

Are Nurse Aide Training students required to undergo a background check?

Yes. Background Check Includes: The US AliasVERIFY search + a 7 year County Criminal search of the subject’s primary name in all county jurisdictions developed from the name and address history for the past 7 years.

If you have a felony criminal conviction on record, you will not be accepted into the Nurse Aide or Babysitter Training Programs. 

Are Nurse Aide Training students required to have a 2-step tuberculosis (TB) screening?

Yes. The CDC recommends tuberculosis screening and testing for all health care personnel.

Are students protected against malpractice lawsuits while enrolled in the Nurse Aide Training program?

Yes. Professional liability insurance is included which safeguards you against allegations of malpractice while performing duties as part of the Nurse Aide Training Program.

What are the withdrawal procedures?

Withdrawal from class must be requested in writing and is not official until the administrator receives the letter. A withdrawal does not cancel the student’s financial obligation entered until this day. A student who does not formally withdraw from class is liable for all fees and associated expenses. A “Business Office Hold’’ will be placed on the student’s record until the financial obligation has been paid. If payment is not received after 30 business days, information will be sent to agency collection. Students will be recorded as ‘released from the program’ on the date the student has signed the official termination/withdrawal form.

What is your refund policy?
  1. If a student has paid for tuition in full before the start of Nurse Aide Training, the student may be eligible for a refund within the first week of the curriculum.
  2. An administrative fee of $150 will be deducted from the tuition and may take up to 6 weeks to process.
  3. No refund is given if the withdrawal request is made after the first week of the curriculum.
  4. The application fee is non-refundable in any event.
  5. No refund is given if termination by the school for any Code of Conduct violation.
Am I required to have a COVID vaccine?

All students are required to show documentation of 2 vaccinations and a booster to participate in Clinical Training. 

Am I eligible to receive tuition assistance?

Federal regulation 42 CFR 483.152(c)(1) states if you are employed by a facility before the course start date then your employer can pay the full tuition cost. Also, “If an individual who is not employed becomes employed by a facility no later than 12 months after completing a nurse aide training then you are eligible for full reimbursement cost.”

Can you tell me more about the Job Placement Program?
SIMEC has partnered with CommuniCare, a network of hospitals, rehabilitation centers, long-term care facilities, and assisted living facilities throughout the state of Indiana, to offer our students a variety of available Certified Nurse Aide positions, many of which offer bonuses. Students who graduate from any of our Nurse Aide Training courses in satisfactory standing are eligible for the job placement program.

Does SIMEC offer a payment plan?

YES! Students have the option to engage in a payment plan for our Nurse Aide Training. All students requesting enrollment in the payment plan must agree with the terms of the payment plan policy.

When are your in-person training days?

We at SIMEC understand the importance of work-life balance and tailored our programs to try and maintain that for our students. We will meet each Sunday from 9am-5pm during the course to complete 43 hours of simulation laboratory skill training. About midway through the course, we begin to schedule students for 32 hours of clinical training. 

Why should I take an American Heart Association class instead of Red Cross or ASHI?

All three organizations are well known for providing basic life support, however, American Heart Association is the industry leader in cardiovascular research and guidance. They are the nation’s oldest and largest organization devoted to fighting heart disease and stroke.  AHA BLS Provider cards are generally more accepted nationwide.

 

What is the AHA’s Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED course?

The AHA’s Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED Courses provide students the highest quality training in the lifesaving skills of first aid and/or CPR and use of an AED. These courses empower students to act with confidence in the event of an emergency at work, home, or in the community. 

 

What will students learn in the AHA’s Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED course?

 

 After successfully completing this course, students should be able to:

CPR AED 

• Describe how high-quality CPR improves survival 

• Explain the concept of the Chain of Survival 

• Recognize when someone needs CPR 

• Describe how to perform CPR with help from others 

• Demonstrate giving effective breaths by using mouth to mouth or a mask for all ages 

• Demonstrate performing high-quality CPR for an adult, a child, and an infant 

• Demonstrate using an AED on an adult and on a child 

• Describe when and how to help a choking adult or child

List the priorities, roles, and responsibilities of first aid rescuers 

• Describe the key steps in first aid 

• Demonstrate removing protective gloves 

• Demonstrate finding the problem 

• Describe the assessment and first aid actions for these life-threatening conditions: heart attack, difficulty breathing, choking, severe bleeding, shock, and stroke

What should I wear to class?

Our CPR and first aid courses involve hands-on practice sessions, so wear something comfortable. If you have long hair, it is best to wear it back.
